Married Blitz

With anxious, pounding heart,
He waited for the morn,
And when he rose,
He felt so tired and forlorn,
His hopes were slight,
His expectations - scorn,
When she said yes,
He felt reborn,
Filled with delight,
His world so bright.

All this did happen
Twenty years ago,
I know his wife,
We both agree,
My friend and I,
In retrospect,
It was a horrid blow,
What happy life
He would have led
Had she said no.
