In Memory of Private Bob Wagner

At eighteen Bob fled Nazi Germany,
Sailed to America across the sea,
Seeking a new life and liberty,
With hope, determination, energy,
At nineteen, as a soldier,
He landed on the beach in Normandy,
To beat the Nazis, fighting for democracy,
Then, in a fierce battle's fiery glow,
He gave his life for freedom at St. Lo.
Some sixty years have passed,
Since that fateful, tragic day,
But Bob, in our hearts will always stay,
Till we into the darkness sail,
And leave this poem, to tell Bob's tale.
