Mister Appleswain - 1929
Once I was a millionaire,
Had it all
Without a care
And then, suddenly, in a flash
Came the 1929 crash,
Lost my business,
All my money,
Life turned dark
From being sunny,
Home, cars,
Even family, all gone,
Am now homeless,
Sleep on stone,
Broke and all alone,
It's a miserable time:
"Brother can you spare a dime?"
Note found on roof of
Bowery Building:
'Nothing below,
Nothing above,
Had enough,
So, I jump off.'
