From Auschwitz to New York
From the shadowy valley of death
Where millions of lost souls once
Rose in smoke into a leaden sky,
I escaped to the green pastures
Of a milk and honey land,
Where freedom and justice prevail
And people hold their heads high,
To have the unique privilege
Of living in the Athens
Of the Western World,
In this grand place where culture,
Art and the civilized life
Are at the very zenith:
