The world is a circus,
A tragic-comic affair,
The curtain goes up,
The curtain comes down,
You played Pagliacci,
The tragic clown,
An actor on the stage
To cry and to smile
For a living wage,
But your heart is broken,
Your mind in a rage,
You're a prisoner of life,
Enclosed in a cage,
The one you loved
Has betrayed you,
The world you know
Has dismayed you,
You smile and you bow,
The curtain falls,
Closed is the show.
