Evolution

Out of the primeval slime
Man developed
And grew in intellect
Till he dominated the universe
And seemed like the gods
He always imagined
And prayed to.

As you age...

As you age
You lose the wonder
What great secrets
Lie way yonder
And of silence
You grow fonder,
Youthful curiosity
Is replaced by lethargy
And you worry
About the 'not to be'...

Futility

Life's debility
Is its futility,
We're born to die
And never know why?

To Dust

We struggle and learn,
We hope and we yearn,
But in the end
To dust we turn...

Bridge of Life

With courage, fortitude and faith
We cross the narrow bridge of life
To the promised heavenly side
Only to find the bridge
Leads us into nothingness.

Reality and Illusion

Reality is a nebulous affair
Because of what we perceive
Is really not there,
For the world is an illusion
Created by our senses,
Selective perception
And modified pretenses
Since the macrocosm
And microcosm we see
Is always shrouded
In a hidden mystery
And true reality
Is beyond our philosophy.

Perchance, we'll learn
The ultimate reality one day
And possibly wish
We had never found the way.

Rose

In dreams I see her yet,
My sweet, dear Rose,
The flower in my bed,
God, the times we had,
The happy life we lead,
She was my whole world,
Now she's gone - dead,
Never, ever to rise
Since her demise,
Except as a precious memory
To always, always stay with me...

A Winner

Let us elect the present
White House resident
As history's worst president,
Crown him for bringing
The good, old US down,
As president - a total loss,
At best - a clown...

Business Meeting

Tonight, at half past nine,
We'll dance, have dinner
With a glass of wine
And we'll cozy up
For whoopee time,
Then you'll return
To your husband
And I to my wife
To rest from our
Strenuous business life...

From Vietnam to Iraq

I nursed him at my breast
When he was small
And watched him
Grow into a man,
So handsome and so tall,
My only son,
So filled with love for life
And youthful zest,
Of all in life I ever knew,
I love him best.

He died last night
Amidst the paddies of Vietnam,
His body torn to shreds
By claymore mines,
While politicians
Spouting senseless platitudes
Smoked their cigars
And partook of their wines.

There are no tears
Left in my eyes to shed,
I'm bitter and alone and old,
My world, my only son is dead.

Again, kids are sent
To Iraq to die
And mothers cry,
Lives lost because
Of fools, oil and a lie,
No earthly reason why...

Dona Felicia

With her black, burning eyes
And her hot Spanish temperament,
I love her with unbridled passion,
For me - she is god-sent,
A life together
We are destined to spend
And when we're old and gray,
We'll still hold hands
Each blessed day
Till we reach that fatal bend
When our lives will end
And if there be a heaven above,
We'll dwell there - together
As symbols of love...

Marriage Disaster

For many years
They lived together
In some fashion
But hated each other
With a passion,
Yet, marriage, children
And convention
Kept them on the go.
Why did they choose
To suffer so?
Only immortal gods,
Perchance, would know...

Don't Blame...

You must not others blame
If you fail at life's game,
For you're the only one
Able to work for and claim
Success, riches and fame.

On Politicians

If you are lucky,
You may occasionally find
An honest politician
Who'll not steal you blind.

Quiet Desperation

It is the nature
Of creation
That men lead lives
Of quiet desperation
For we are born to die
And never, ever know
Where, when or why...

Despair in Iraq

Now, I lay me down to sleep
In a world which makes
The angels weep,
If I should die before I wake,
I thank my Lord for my escape.

Crash

Everybody lives on credits,
Accumulates increasing debits,
Slowly goes into bankruptcy
Till the system crashes
Around you and me
And we face
A ruined economy
Like the time in 1929
When bankers begged:
"Brother, can you spare a dime?"

Suicide Bombers

They live in horrid misery,
Barely surviving
In abject poverty,
But imams promise them
A heavenly destiny
With 72 virgins
Fulfilling their fantasy,
Guarantee their families
A life quite sunny,
Paid for
With Iranian money
If they kill the infidel
By blowing themselves up
To escape their earthly hell.

Moslem Europe

A negative birthrate
In Europe's nations
Leads to a sharp decline
In their populations,
Offset by a huge increase
In Moslem immigration,
Masters in procreation,
Which will soon result in
Europe turning into
A Moslem nation.

Love you...

No one loves you
As much as I,
You are my life,
For you I'd die,
It's just that way,
I don't know why...

Politicos' Dance

They flip and they flop,
They dribble and drop,
Politicos dance
To the lobbyists' hop,
And graft is channeled
Without any stop
To the Congressmen's club,
While in Iraq boys die
And mothers cry
'cause George told a lie,
They say - for oil profits,
That's why,
Seems, the whole system,
More or less,
Turned into an unholy mess.

Love Song

No one can ever love you
As much as I do,
No one will
Ever care for you
The way I do
Or have the passion
I feel for you
And be as true
In heart and soul
As I am to you,
But when I'm gone
You will be sorry,
Weep at my grave
For love's lost glory...

Pogrom in Kielce - 1946

Have you ever heard the news
Of the Poles murdering Jews,
Polish Jews returning home
Massacred in a pogrom,
Crimes never to be forgotten
By some Poles turning rotten.

Star

Catch me a star
From the velvet sky,
Let my spirits soar
Way, way up high,
Let my soul
To the heavens fly,
Let me taste
All life's ecstasies,
Ere I die, ere I die...

Reincarnation

Within the almost eternal
Hydrogen atoms in our brain
We may retain a memory core
Which through the ages
Recalls a life before,
So, in one's mind or dreams
Places maybe seen
Where one has never been,
Recalling long past stages,
Perchance, a life lived
In the Middle Ages.

Overeating

The complexity of modern life
Results in a huge frustration,
Thus, to still our anxieties
We turn into an overeating nation,
With eating our primary recreation,
Fat people everywhere,
Stuffing themselves
In quiet desperation.

Overpopulation

In a sexual frenzy
We copulate and reproduce,
Men and women,
The gander and the goose,
And so we overpopulate the world,
Tying for all the Malthusian noose,
Till the entire human race
Will die chocking,
Simply out of space.

The Jews

To the Arabs it maybe news
That they are Semites ,
Abraham's children
And cousins of the Jews.

To the Christians it may be new
That Jesus was an orthodox Jew
And to the Romans he paid his dues
Because they crucified him
As King of the Jews.

Big Brother

We turn into
An anthill society,
Everyone the same,
Not much variety,
Pressed by the enormity
Of forced conformity,
Big Brother watching you
In all you say and do...

Body and Soul

When your body
Turns to dust
As all life must,
There is no afterlife,
No heaven and no hell,
Only, perchance,
A parting bell,
Your so-called soul
Lost and forlorn,
Returned to the same state
Ere you were born,
Your boy buried - rotten
And soon forgotten...

Taliban

Veiled eyes
Full of anxiety,
The Taliban
Watching for impropriety,
Conformity enforced,
Forbidden is variety,
Religious fanatics
Ruining a society.

For you and me.

Negative thoughts
May bring you misery.
