Missing you...

Nothing in my life
I regret, my love,
Except the sorrows
Of not being with you
On all your morrows...

Princess and her Slave

Daily walked the princess
In her palace up and down,
Wearing jewels
And her royal blue gown,
While her young slave
Grew paler every day,
Seeming to waste
His life away,
For he loved the princess
Hopelessly
And he suffered in misery,
Eventually to die,
And the princess
Never knew why...

Village Cafe

In the small Village cafe
The artists meet every day,
They try to sell their art,
But they can only give it away,
It is too weird, people say,
The poet's rhymes are way out,
The philosopher's
Musings have no clout,
The painter's colors are too loud,
But the artists try to
Ease their frustrations
By praising each others' creations,
Still they don't understand why
No one wants to buy,
But they hope after their demise,
Their art will win a prize,
But chances are their art
Will be turned into re-cycled
Paper once they depart
And future artists
In some small Village cafe
Will use their re-cycled stock
To dream their hopes away.

My Love for you...

My love for you
Is as deep as the ocean,
As wide as the sea,
You are my world,
My very life for me,
Without you, dearest,
I can not be...

Love me today...

Love me today,
Forget me tomorrow,
Too much involvement
Will only bring sorrow.

Cat

Warm and woolly is a cat,
She'd cozy up in your arms,
Cuddle up for a pat,
But she'll chase and kill
A bird, mouse or rat,
That's the dichotomy
Of a cat...

In Iraq

In Iraq's desert he lies
Staring with broken eyes
At leaden, empty skies,
He was only nineteen,
Much of the world
He had not seen,
He died for god and country
Or some such platitude,
But more correctly stated,
His leaders' attitude,
Maybe, he defended his soil
For profits on the oil.

Were you to wake
And ask him:
'Why did you go?'
He'd answer shyly:
'I just don't know...'

Wall Street Trader

He was a sociable chap,
A bit of a clown,
Yet a sharp and ruthless
Trader of renown,
His manipulations were
The shrewdest in town,
He got away with inside
Trading and other chicanery,
Thus, putting his firm
And clients into bankruptcy,
Happily contributing
To our nation's misery,
But now he enjoys his liberty,
With a huge stash of money,
On Bahamas' beaches
Where it's nice and sunny.

My Soldier in Iraq

I dreamt last night
Of my fallen soldier
Returning to me
And our family,
Seeming happy
And as well as can be,
But then I woke
To the cruel reality
That his wife and children
He'll never, ever see,
And all the tears I shed
For the wonderful life
We could have had,
Instead of being alone
While his mangled body
Lies under a stone...

Ocean of Life

All of us are people
In a rudderless boat
On the ocean of life,
Destined to drown,
There is nothing below
And nothing above
Except goodness and love...

Morality

From the bottom up,
Not from the top down
Comes the quality
Of a nation's morality,
For we elect to serve
The leaders we deserve.

Platinumsmith

He shapes the noble metal
With an artist's hands
Into a precious jewel
Studded with gems,
Unique - a thing apart,
Of great value, a work of art,
Handed down through
Many a generation,
And long after the smith is gone,
People will still admire his creation.

Solomon

Solomon, the wise man, spoke:
"Modern society is a joke,
A four hundred horsepower
Car for every bloke,
With expensive oil and no money,
Credit cards buy all his honey,
Live today, go broke tomorrow,
Let the creditors have the sorrow,
Buy a house without the means,
With no change left in his jeans,
Repossession and foreclosure,
Lives on streets, suffers exposure,
While Uncle Sam prints
Money by the ton
And its value recedes to - none,
With cheap Asian goods
Creating enjoyment,
Contributing to US unemployment,
Everyone borrows, borrows,
As if there are no tomorrows,
Busting Wall Street and the banks
With the economy ruining the Yanks."

First Love

Some day,
When we're old and gray,
We'll recall the way
We felt tonight,
'neath the canopy
Of stars shining bright,
With palms swaying,
And music playing
From a distant shore,
A tango's old familiar score,
First love for us in our teens,
A heavenly delight it seems,
There may be many other
Lovers on our scene,
But they'll be routine.

Decline of the West

The sun rises in the East
And declines in the West,
Describing our situation best,
China took over our production
And thus we are left with service
Industries and construction,
With Asian labor we can't compete,
That's why the West suffers defeat
And our economies are in retreat,
Spengler in 1918-22 predicted it best
When he wrote 'Decline of the West'.

Sophistry

To twist the meaning of words
Is a very special skill
For which lawyers
Render their bill,
While politicians make sure
To get their graft and sinecure
And ad people dangle it
As their captivating lure,
With insurers using it
As their stint
By writing contracts in
Incomprehensible fine print,
From Wall Street to the credit card,
Our entire system is based
On the tricky deception
Of sophistry art.

Sun

Into a red giant
Will turn our sun,
Burning all life,
Once all its
Hydrogen is gone,
But have no fears,
There's time to prepare
For five billion years.

Sin

Sin is more fun
But virtue has none,
As one can tell,
It's empty in heaven
And crowded in hell.

Nursing Home Sex

She is the queen bee
Of the senile set,
At ninety, heavily painted,
She still knocked
Some old geezers dead,
Though she had
A teacher's elocution,
It is said, she worked
In high class prostitution,
Bedded corporate presidents,
Including some
White House residents,
And even the old fogies
At the nursing home
Say that her skills
Are far from gone.

I Wish...

I wish for this,
I wish for that,
Often don't know
Just for what,
My wishes change
With time and age,
The different roles I play
On this world's stage
For life's book is long,
Changes on every page,
Some wishes
Into reality projected
May turn out different
Than expected,
Yet, hopeful wishes
Keep me going,
Keep my life's
Juices flowing...

Iternet Miracle

In the morn I find
A poem on my mind,
I note it on a page,
Type it on my computer
And instantly
It's on the world's stage,
From Brazil to China,
From the US to Canada
The miracle of Internet
Unites and shrinks our planet
Into a global village net.

Jesus

Jesus was a pious Jew,
Followed the commandments
All the way through,
He had a reverence for life,
A man of peace,
Against war and strife,
Stood up for the weak,
Man's brotherhood,
The poor and the meek,
A man of the people,
Simple, good and kind,
With him you'd no
Pretensions find,
If he were to rise and see
What was done in his name,
The persecution of Jews,
The Inquisition or the lavish
Church's political game,
He'd call it an outrage,
An indefensible shame.

Get them off the Plane

This chap, Hussein,
Threw three reporters
Off his plane,
This was only due
To the fact,
They disagreed
With his view,
This then became
The occasion
To take on reporters
Friendly to him
From a black magazine,
If this is to be expected,
Should he be elected,
Make sure he's not selected.

Stud Rental

Although I love her habit
To have sex like a rabbit,
The only problem is,
I can't keep up with it,
So, to have her content,
I hired some studs for rent.

Said Joe to Moe:

"Ah, the vicissitudes of life,
The constant struggle,
The never ending strife,
My failing business,
My nagging, childless wife,
My health is not so hot,
My bank account is overdrawn
And my credit is in a rot."

"Could be worse", said Moe,
"How much worse could it be?"
Answered disgusted Joe,
Came his reply from Moe,
"It could have happened to me."

Aids

She seemed so virginal and pure,
He never, ever suspected
She was a professional whore,
But she left him with a gift,
Quite difficult to cure...

Yellow Rose

My yellow rose is fading,
Its petals wilt away,
She's had her glory day,
Soon, autumn winds
Will sweep my rose away,
But memories of her beauty
Will always with me stay...

1938 - 2008

His firebrand speeches,
His dominant shout,
His promise of change
Electrifying the crowd,
Creating statics
For the fanatics,
Remind me of Hitler,
Energetic and loud,
When I saw him in Vienna
Addressing his crowd.

Darwinian Scheme

While the growing complexity
Of modern technology
Requires an increasing ability
And intellectual acuity,
Medical progress
Causes genetic regress
When survival of the fittest
Is the leading theme
In life's Darwinian scheme.
